​​​IGCC organises an Evening of Classical Music by Ms. Silpi Paul from Kolkata at Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbag, Dhaka at 6.30 PM on Saturday, 1 July, 2017

 

​          Indira Gandhi Culture Centre is organising an Evening of Classical Music by Ms. Silpi Paul from Kolkata at Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh, Dhaka, at 6.30 PM on Saturday, 1 July, 2017.

Born in a family of music lovers, Ms. Silpi Paul started learning vocal music from Sri Ranjan Mukhopadhyay, a disciple of Pandit Manas Chakraborty. Later she got trained under Pandit Nihar Ranjan Bandopadhyay of Bishnupur Gharana and finally Pandit Arun Bhaduri of Kirana Gharana. At present she is under the tutelage of the doyen of Hindustani classical music, Padmabhushan Smt. Girija Devi of Benaras Gharana.

Ms. Silpi graduated from Calcutta University and has obtained ‘Sangeet Bisharad’ from the Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. She has also obtained Masters’ (M.A.) in Vocal Music i.e. Khayal from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata with 1st Class Distinction marks. She was awarded National Scholarship in Hindustani Music from Govt. of India. Sur Singer Samsad, Mumbai, awarded her the prestigious title ‘Surmani’. She is a Graded Artiste of Kolkata Television and All India Radio in Khayal, Thumri, Dadra and Bhajan. 

Ms. Silpi has received several awards & recognitions from organizations like Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Govt. of India), Pandit Ravi Kichlu Foundation, Dover Lane Music Conference, West Bengal State Music Academy, Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. Shalimar & Anandabazar Patrika, Vidyasager Academy, Nehru Children Museum, Kolkata, Department of Education, Government of West Bengal. 

Ms. Silpi has performed in television channels like Zee Bangla, Aakash Bangla, Channel Vision, News Time etc and has sung for Bengali Movie ‘Kuasha’. She has performed in various programmes such as West Bengal State Music Academy, Kal-Ki-Kalakar (Sur Singer Samsad), Bhowanipur Sangit Sammilani, Saveri, Sunanda Musical Trust, Shibpur B.E. Collage, Salt Lake Cultural Association, Sree Ramkrishna Ashram, Sree Satyananda Devayatan, Bangla Sangeet Mela, Bharatiya Samskriti Samsad, Pt Sharadchandra Arolkar Memorial Smriti Samaroh 2012, Mumbai, Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra, Haldia Music Circle, Balaram Baba Mahotsav, Patna etc.
