The Government of India has issued an advisory that the use of satellite phones in India is banned and unauthorized/illegal under Section 6 of Indian Wireless Act and Section 20 of Indian Telegraph Act. Unauthorised satellite phones will be seized and the holder will be liable for prosecution under Section 6 of Indian Wireless Act and Section 20 of Indian Telegraph Act. Therefore, all travelers to India are advised not to carry satellite phones to India.
