An Evening of Rabindra Sangeet” by Ms. Shemonty Monjari

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India is organizing “An Evening of Rabindra Sangeet” by Ms. Shemonty Monjari at 6:30 PM on Saturday December 8, 2018 at the Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditiorim, Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka.

Shemonty Monjari, an young Rabindra Sangeet artist, stepped into the musical journey of her life at the age of four, holding her father’s hand. Her father, Sohrab Uddin is a renowned organizer and also once a singer. Her mother, Nasima Khan is also a Rabindra Sangeet artist and it was their encouragement which took her forward in this path. As being brought up in a family where music was the priority, Shemonty was blessed by very talented personalities like Wahidul Haque, Sanjida Khatun and Mita Huq. Later, she started her training in Chhayanaut Sangeetvidyayatan at the age of ten. There she completed her eight years course in Rabindra Sangeet with the first class first position. At the age of eighteen, Shemonty took part in the national competition organized by Jayito Rabindrasangeet Sammilon Parishad where she grabbed the first position.

From a very young age Shemonty performed on stage. Currently she performs for all stage and TV shows in Dhaka’s music arena. She is also working at Chhayanaut Sangeetvidyayatan since 2012 as a teacher in Rabindrasangeet. Her first solo album named “Rangiye Diye Jao” was released in 2014 under the banner of Bengal Foundation. Her second solo album “Dekho Re Chittokomole” has also been produced and released by Bengal Foundation this year. Shemonty has completed MA in Cultural and Critical Studies from University of Westminster, UK and currently she is a professional in the academic fieldteaching in University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh(ULAB).
