 Press Release

Indira Gandhi Culture Centre is organising an ‘Evening of Rabindra Sangeet’ with narration by Mr. Pitam Sengupta (India) and songs by Ms. Sangita Majumdar (India) and Ms. Mahnaz Karim Hussain (Bangladesh) on 17 February 2018 at 6.30 pm at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh, Dhaka.

The programme is based on documented research by Mr. Pitam Sengupta on Tagore’s journey to Bangladesh and its influence on his life. The rivers and streams of Bangladesh, its fertile low lying plains and the abounding freshness of Nature had a lifelong impact on the poet and inspired him to compose songs and short stories.

Mr. Pitam Sengupta is an author from Kolkata who has done a lot of research on Tagore and has published a book on Tagore’s works in 2015. In 2016, his research-based document on the Swaralipikars of Tagore’s songs was broadcast by Doordarshan Bangla in a 12-part series. While he scripted and coordinated the programme himself, he anchored it along with renowned Elocutionist, Bratati Gangopadhyay. Currently, he is exploring new themes and aspects of Tagore studies which are anchored by him in stage productions in Kolkata.

Ms. Sangita Majumdar studied music at Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan, and is a graded artiste of All India Radio. She also performs Rabindra Sangeet in TV channels in India and gives stage performances. She was awarded a gold medal by the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, India.

Ms. Mahnaz Karim Hussain is a promising Rabindra Sangeet singer of Bangladesh from the new generation. She is an enlisted singer of BTV and also performs regularly in stages and other TV channels of Bangladesh. Recently, she has given a solo Rabindra Sangeet performance in Tara Music channel of Kolkata.

Entry is open (There is no need to collect Invitation Pass). No bag allowed within the IGCC premise during the programme.
