 An evening of Lalon Sangeet by Md. Shariful Islam (Sharif Sadhu)

IGCC is proud to organize an evening of Lalon Sangeet by Md. Shariful Islam (Sharif Sadhu) on 4th August 2018 at 6.30PM at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh, Dhaka.

In 1990 Md. Shariful Islam (Sharif Sadhu) started learning singing for the first time  under the guidance of his village Guru M.A. Hanjala and Abdul Malik Sarkar. After that he started training under Ustad Paresh Chowdhury on classical music under Pubna Sangeet Academy ‘IFA’. In this way he got introduced to both Boul and Classical music. In the year 1995 he passed the voice test on Polli Geeti and Lalon Geeti of Radio Bangladesh Rajshahi Kendra.

For higher studies in music Mr. Sharif got admission in “Dhaka Sangeet Maha vidyalaya” on I - music course and started taking training under many stalwarts of Bangladeshi music. They are Indra Mohan Rajbongshi, Abdul Latif, Zahir Alam, Ustad Akther Sadmani, Sahmima Perveen.He regularly performs in Kushtia district which  the native place of  Lalon Shah.

Aaprt from this he performend in many school and colleges of various cities. At present he is working as Dotara Player in the Directorate of Mass Communication under Ministry of Information, People’s Republic of Bangladesh and he is enlisted performer of Bangladesh Television and Radio Bangladesh.

Mr. Sharif has performed in India also. Amongst them, the year 2015 and 2016 in Kolkata's Barrackpor are mentionable. Also he had participated in Jaydev Kenduli Shyamsakha monastery in the district of Birvum in 2017. this year on 16th and 17th June, he was invited in Jaydev Kenduli Shyamsakha monastery in Birvum district. This time,  was invited again on 24th and 25th August in Barrackpor Shohoj Manush Monastery.

Other than, he had earned reputation by playing musical instrument 'Dotara' in the background music of famous movie of Bangladesh 'Monpura'. Moreover, he had played 'Dotara' in background music and also performed 4 folk dramatic action melodies in Movie 'Opekkha' directed by the famous director Abu Sayeed.

At present  he is taking training and doing his research  under eminent Lalon music personality Mr. Abdul Mannan to preserve the rich heritage of almost disappearing Boul music. He got the title of Sharif Sadhu by Mr. Abdul Mannan.
