IGCC and Jagannath Hall, University of Dhaka, jointly celebrate Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti with a programme of Music and Dance by eminent artists of Bangladesh at Upasanalaya, Jagannath Hall, Dhaka University at 7 PM on 22 May, 2017 

   Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), Dhaka, in collaboration with Jagannath Hall, Dhaka University, is celebrating Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti with a programme of Music and Dance at 7 pm on 22 May, 2017 at Upasanalaya, Jagannath Hall, Dhaka University. The programme will include dance by Turongomi dance troupe led by Ms. Pooja Sengupta, Rabindrasangeet by Ms. Aditi Mohsin and Nazrulgeeti by Dr. Nashid Kamal. 

   Ms. Aditi Mohsin received initial training in music at the Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts in Dhaka. Thereafter, she did her graduation and post-graduation in music with first class from Viswa Bharati University, Shantiniketan under ICCR scholarship. There, she trained under legendary exponents of Rabindra Sangeet like Smt. Kanika Bandopadhyay, Smt. Nilima Sen etc. She worked as a senior teacher in Chhayanaut till 2000. Her solo albums have been released by Bengal Foundation and HMV Sa Re Ga Ma. She has won many awards including the title of “Anyanna Shirsho Dosh” in 2004 and the Citycell-Channel i Music award. She is a regular artist in prominent stages and radio and television channels of Bangladesh and India. She has also performed in USA, UK, Canada, U.A.E, China, Indonesia etc. 

   Dr. Nashid Kamal, grand-daughter of legendary musician Abbasuddin Ahmed, has been an outstanding exponent of Nazrul Geeti, semi-classical, folk music and Urdu ghazals in Bangladesh for over four decades. She has trained under music legends like Ustad P.C Gomes, Ustad Akther Shadmani, Ustad Quader Zameeree and Pandit Jasraj of India. She is a regular performer in Bangladesh in radio, TV and in prestigious stage programmes. She also performs in Tara TV, Kolkata. She has won Nazrul Award from Nazrul Academy in 2009. She has also published many books including translations in English on Kazi Nazrul Islam’s poetry. She visited New Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata in India for performances under ICCR sponsorship in September 2011.  

   Ms. Pooja Sengupta is a young and established Dancer and Choreographer of Bangladesh. She did her MA in Bharatnatyam from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata under ICCR scholarship. She established ‘Turongomi Repertory Dance Theatre Institute’ in 2014 in Dhaka. She has introduced a new style called ‘Dance Theatre’ and her productions focus on literature and poetry in dance and choreography. She has participated in stages in Bangladesh and in India, Germany, China and Thailand. In 2014 her dance production “Anamika Sagorkonna” was selected at the Bangkok 2014 IF Festival of Performing Arts. She was invited to conduct a workshop at Bangkok University in 2014 on “Influence of poetry and literature in dance and choreography”.   

   All are cordially invited to attend the programme. Entry is open to all (there is no need to collect Invitation Pass).
