​​​Inauguration of Kathak Dance Classes at High Commission of India, Dhaka, New Chancery
Complex, Baridhara, on 1 July 2017 at 10.30 AM

   The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, will be starting Kathak Dance classes in the New Chancery Complex of the High Commission of India in Baridhara, from 1st July 2017. Eminent Kathak dancer of Bangladesh, Ms. Munmun Ahmed, will be the dance teacher. The inauguration will be done by the High Commissioner of India, H.E Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla at a ceremony on 1 July 2017 at 10.30 AM at the High Commission of India premise. 

   The IGCC’s announcement of starting Kathak classes has met with keen response from the public and over eighty candidates have registered for the course. A six-month course of basic Kathak training for two days a week will be conducted and certificates will be awarded to deserving candidates at the end of the course. 

   Ms. Munmun Ahmed has received her Diploma Honours and Post Diploma degrees in Kathak from the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, under the guidance of the famous Kathak exponent of India, Pandit Birju Maharaj. She has also been the recipient of a Fellowship in Kathak from the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. Ms. Munmun Ahmed has a Kathak Dance School of her own, the ‘Rewaz Performers’ School’ in Dhaka. Ms. Munmun also conducts workshops at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy which is attended by Kathak teachers of Bangladesh. She has performed Kathak on stage and on television at home and abroad, in India, UK, USA, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, African countries, China etc. She has worked as a Dance Director in films. She has performed in many dance festivals in India and other countries.
